What can I expect on Sunday mornings?
Our Sunday morning services start at 10:30 and generally last until around 11:45. We usually have between 80-110 in the congregation with us.
Between 10-10.10 AM each Sunday morning the music group and sound team do a sound check. We do this will all the speakers on which can be quite loud.
The reason we do this is so we can check each week that the sound is as good as possible for worship, and that vocals etc can be clearly heard to lead the singing and enhance worship. After 10.10 AM we reduce the sound and continue to play for people as they come in.
Services are led by our worship leaders and preachers.
We have a variety of worship leaders who offer different styles of worship.
Our current worship leading team include Kim Latif (worship action chair), Kath Felix, Janet Carter, Brian Glover, Leanne Mitchell, Abi Wigston and Chris Swan.
We do a variety of styles of worship including more traditional hymns and songs through to taize songs and more modern songs and styles of worship.
We mainly do more contemporary praise and worship but aim to include and respect the variety of worship which people find helpful in drawing near to God.
We have a variety of people attending – we have some families with young children, a group of teenagers and older children, a group of students and 20 somethings, and many middle aged families as well as older folks.
Each service usually contains a talk for our children and young people near the start before they then leave us for childrens church.
There will usually be an offering, though this is for our church members, and there is no expectation that visitors contribute.
We will hear teaching from the bible from our preachers, and this typically lasts 15- 25 minutes.
The remainder of the service will be praise and worship. This many include singing, prayer, silence, liturgy, or listening to music.
I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect on a Sunday morning at OBC and we hope to have you with us soon!
